Margaret A. Stone

Maggie grew up in Peoria and joined the John C. Proctor Endowment Board of Trustees in 2019.

For twenty years, Maggie worked at the Smithsonian Institution in various capacities across the organization. After graduating from Duke University with a B.A. in Biological Anthropology and Anatomy, she began her career at the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

Maggie then served as the Financial Program Manager for a Smithsonian office that supported interdisciplinary research. That role included administering a $7M granting program, providing operational strategies to stakeholders to facilitate the achievement of programmatic goals, and collaborating to establish operational infrastructure for Smithsonian research programs.

Her final position at the Smithsonian was as a Budget & Policy Analyst for the office that manages resources and policy for the Institution as a whole. In that role, Maggie oversaw the development of policies and procedures related to administrative and financial operations, and provided budget and program analysis.

While at the Smithsonian, she enjoyed mentoring participants in the Institution’s leadership development programs as well as volunteering with the Smithsonian Community Committee, a grassroots group committed to fostering a sense of community and positive morale among the Institution’s workforce through a diverse range of events.

Maggie currently serves as Corporate Governance Team Lead for a federal government agency.

In her free time, she enjoys making friends with the dogs in her neighborhood, attending concerts, being outdoors, and traveling to far-flung places. Her best trips so far have involved observing lemurs in Madagascar and orangutans Borneo.
